This module will provide the foundational knowledge needed to prepare for your brigade experience and help ensure that you can contribute safely, respectfully, and effectively.

International travel is an exciting part of the brigade experience, but it also requires preparation, awareness, and responsible decision-making. This module will introduce important travel, health, and safety information to help you feel confident and supported throughout your journey.
Pillar 3 – Cultural Context and Practices
Understanding Yourself, Understanding Others
This module introduces key concepts such as positionality, intersectionality, cultural bias, and cross-cultural communication. It also provides practical strategies to help you engage respectfully with community members, navigate cultural differences, and better understand the communities you will be working alongside.
Pillar 4 - Ethical Engagement and Organizational Values
As a Global Brigades volunteer, it is important to understand the values that guide our work and how to engage with communities in an ethical and respectful way. This module explores responsible volunteering, community partnership, ethical advocacy, and how our actions can impact the communities we work alongside.
